Republic gold 10 Pesos 1858 MS65 NGC, Popayan mint, KM122.2, Fr-86. A premium coin for the designation, Gem Mint State with fully brilliant and prooflike surfaces and a most impressive strike for the issue with the condor and shield on the reverse sharply defined. The marginally finer MS-66 NGC ex-Lissner example recently hammered for $6,500 (CNG 8/2014, lot 1474) while a lesser MS64 NGC coin with a noticeable obverse flan lamination hammered for $3,250 in our Long Beach 2013 Signature Sale (Heritage Auctions 9/2013, lot 24389). Very rare and most desirable in this select grade, essentially unimprovable as a type representative with the aforementioned ex-Lissner piece the only (marginally, as noted) finer example noted by the cataloguer.
