Colombia
Republic silvered-bronze Uniface Essai Peso 1873 PR55 NGC, Paris mint, KM-TS7. Incorrectly identified on the insert as the trial strike of the reverse (KM-TS8). Slightly handled proof with scant surface abrasions accounting for the technical designation. Restrepo ("Monedas de Colombia: 1619-2006", page 225) states that "these proof trial strikes designed by Barre were (eventually) rejected" while other past authors attribute the "A. B." initials to Joseph Antoine Bovy. Very rare with perhaps five known examples, most of which show light handling evidence, the sole exception being the ex-Norweb piece (Christie's Dallas 11/1985, lot 790).
Estimate: 3000-4000 USD
