Hamburg. St. Michael's Church gold Proof Medal 1862 PR63 Ultra Cameo NGC, Gaed-2111. 42.6mm. 36.5gm. By Lorenz. Most likely struck after 1871, this specimen commemorates the 100th anniversary of the inauguration of the Lutheran church St. Michael, featuring the half-length bust of the builder, Ernst Georg Sonnin, and a striking image of the sanctuary. Fully radiant, with deep mirrors and an all-over luminous, golden sheen, this broad medal expresses only light handling in the way of minor ticks and faint wisps that appear in the open expanses. An enchanting selection with endless eye-appeal.St. Michael's is the most famous church in Hamburg and is dedicated to the Archangel Michael. Because of its incredibly tall steeple, the church is visible from the river Elbe which helped navigate seafarers at the time. The church itself has been rebuilt several times after enduring a lightning strike in 1750, a fire in 1906, and bombings during WWII.

Estimate: 1500-2000 USD
