Hesse-Cassel. Charles I gold 3 Ducat 1727-GCL AU58 NGC, KM513var. By Gabriel Le Clerc. Featuring the head of Charles I, Landgrave of Hesse-Cassel, this gold multiple was struck to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the University of Marburg which was founded in 1527. While a striking of this type in silver is available from time to time, the gold variation is extremely rare. Showing little wear on the high-relief devices, and with much original luster still glistening throughout the surfaces.
