Stephen (1135-1154) Penny c.1136-45 AU53 PCGS, Hereford mint, Edric as moneyer, Watford type, S-1278, North-873. + STIEFNE RE :, bust right, crowned and diademed, holding scepter in right hand / + EDRICVS ON hERE, cross moline with fleur in each quadrant. Despite the grade in the lower AU range, this is quite simply one of the best-struck pennies of Stephen this cataloger has handled. The bust leaves a little to be desired, but the legends are almost entirely on flan and everything on the flan is clear and legible. Stunning for the type!
