George V "Modified Effigy" Penny 1926 AU Details (Altered Surfaces) PCGS, Royal mint, S-4054A. Obv. 4/ Rev. C. An extremely rare die pairing, listed in the Standard Catalogue of British Coins as "of the highest rarity", with a sharper obverse portrait of King George V than is typically seen on the date and a reverse where Brittania has a shorter index finger and the waves are more pronounced. The surfaces, mostly glossy brown, show several lighter flecks on both sides. Past surface alterations are very minor and only become visible when inspected with a loupe. The only example of this type that we are aware of.
