India
British India. William IV - East India Company gold Proof Restrike Mohur 1835-(B) PR55 NGC, Bombay mint, KM451.1, S&W-1.16. An extremely rare type without initials on the truncation or dot following the date. Featuring the classic bust of William IV with the prowling lion and palm tree motif. Of particular note on this particular restrike is the toothed border on the reverse, leading us to believe this could be an issue muled with a later reverse die. Despite faint abrasions that evenly cover the surfaces and light friction atop the design elements, this offering presents a noticeably bold strike and pleasing reflectivity within the fields. A significant issue that is highly-collectible at all levels, well-deserving of much attention in this current market.
Estimate: 5500-6500 USD
