James II brass Gunmoney 1/2 Crown 1690-May MS63 PCGS, KM101, S-6580B. A phenomenal specimen that features the head of James II surrounded by lustrous, chestnut-brown color. This type of coinage was minted from melted down brass scraps, bells, and weaponry, so when these issues are encountered, they are typically fairly crude in their presentation. This example, however, is quite possibly one of the finest we've handled, with all details fully bold and fields that are remarkably fresh. A substantial piece in all respects, perfect for the collector of Gunmoney material. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $65 in VF, $120 in EF, $950 in UNC.
Estimate: 1500-2500 USD
