Charles III silver Proclamation Medal ND (1761) Very Fine, Mexico City mint, Medina-90, Betts-478. Attractively toned with strong details, attractive planchet quality and only haphazard surface handling marks. Medina ("Medallas de Proclamaciones y Juras de los Reyes de Espana en America", page 80) transcribes a letter by the Rector of the University, Manuel Ignacio Beye de Cisneros dated September 25, 1761, as follows: "The loyal chests of the vassals academicians of your Majesty filled with joyful feelings by their exaltation to the Spanish Throne have endeavored to show them through the enclosed (medal) piece and (other) medals bearing your Majesty's bust that we have commissioned to celebrate this joyous day". A wholesome example of this very rare and handsome proclamation medal, less than ten examples of which have been confirmed by the cataloger.
