Portuguese Guinea
Portuguese Colony Escudo 1933 MS67 NGC, Lisbon mint, KM5. One-year type. The most desirable type from this little African nation, and most likely the finest survivor of that issue, with qualities that fully befit the Superb Gem moniker; the surfaces remain sharp as a result of a strong strike and no post-strike imperfections are visible without the aid of a magnification. The tone, of delicate pastel hue, also supports the grade, helping to give this satiny piece a great overall appearance. Easily the finest we have seen, and not surprisingly, the sole MS67 to appear in the NGC census. An altogether marvelous opportunity for the collector of Portugal's many colonies!
