Transvaal. Republic Mule Pattern Penny 1874 MS62 Brown NGC, Brussels mint, KM-XPn2, Hern-T23. Estimated mintage of 5 pieces. A rare pattern produced in bronze with the obverse of the Transvaal issues and a reverse more commonly associated with the Orange Free State Patterns of the same year. The surfaces are quite nice, minimally handled with an almost brindle tone. An extremely rare issue and possibly the only example of this type that has been offered since 1985, although this is the third offering at auction during that time.Ex: Richard J.
