Transvaal. Republic bronze Proof 2 Pence 1874 PR65 Brown NGC, Brussels mint, KM-XPn3, Hern-T19. Estimated mintage of 50 pieces. A beautifully toned example, light brown with strong undertones of glowing mint red. Although the fields are not as reflective as one generally associates with Proof issues, Hern notes that these were salesman samples and were therefore produced in a Prooflike finish. With certified pieces existing in both Mint State and Proof designations, Specimen may be a more appropriate description in this instance.
