Republic gold "Fine Beard" Burgers Pond 1874 VF Details (Plugged) NGC, Heaton mint, KM1.2, Fr-1, Hern-B1. Mintage: 695 (for variety). A second "plugged" example of this rare type. It seems that quite a few pieces of this issue met the same fate and were either pierced at approximately 12 o'clock (as was this piece) or mounted on the edge at about that spot. This example has been holed, and crudely plugged, at 12 o'clock, with the usual polishing that seems to accompany the pieces used as jewelry.The Read Collection
