Republic gold "Single Shaft" Pond 1892 MS62 NGC, Berlin mint, KM10.2, Hern-Z45. A truly amazing example of this conditionally rare issue, and by-far, the rarest of the regular issue ZAR Ponds. This Mint State example displays full, bright mint luster, with a slight greenish-gold tint, and only a few very minor handling marks in the obverse fields. The unquestioned key date for the Kruger Pond type, and as such, a highly coveted coin in just about any grade. This is the first Mint State example we have had the privilege of offering at auction. Previously, our finest examples have graded AU58, with the most recent example selling at $16,450 in our January 2015 New York (NYINC) auction. With high grade circulated pieces selling for this elevated amount, we expect this example to soar beyond that figure. The Read Collection
