Vespasian (AD 69-79). Orichalcum semis (3.55 gm). Antioch, struck in Rome. IMP · VESP · AUG, laureate head of Vespasian left / PONT · T R POT, winged caduceus. RIC --. RPC 2. McAlee 377. Very rare! Toned brassy surfaces. With an outstanding portrait for so small a coin. Nearly Extremely Fine. Most scholars believe the small series including this charming little fraction was struck in Rome for circulation in Syria, accounting for the fact that all surviving examples come from this region. This particular variety, which lacks P P at the end of the reverse legend, may be a mule with a coin of Titus and is much the rarest type of the series.
