Septimius Severus AV Quinarius. Rome, AD 205. SEVERVS PIVS AVG, laureate bust right / COS III P P, Victory advancing left, holding wreath and palm. RIC -, cf. 258 (silver quinarius); BMC -; C. -; Hill -, cf. 714 (silver quinarius). 3.56g, 14mm, 12h.
Very Fine. Apparently unique and unpublished.
Found at Crondall, Hampshire in early 2015.
The silver quinarii of Septimius are extremely rare; his gold quinarii exceedingly so. Hill dates the silver quinarii of this type to Septimius' fifth largess in AD 205; the gold quinarius must have been a companion issue, of which this is the first known example.
