Nero augustus, 54 – 68

Denarius circa 65-66, AR 3.61 g. NERO CAESAR – AVGVSTVS Laureate head r. Rev. VESTA Domed hexastyle temple; within which, statue of Vesta seated facing, holding patera and long sceptre. C 335. BMC 104. RIC 62. CBN 230.
A bold portrait and a wonderful iridescent tone. Good extremely fine

The Temple of Vesta was destroyed by the great fire in 64 AD. This was one of the oldest and most important temples in Rome and it was rebuilt by Nero after the fire. A small portion of the temple remains in the Roman forum today. MSG.
