CILICIA, Tarsos. Mazaios, 361/0-334 BC. Stater (Silver, 21.5mm, 10.84 g 7). B'LTRZ Baaltars seated left on backless throne, with his torso facing the viewer, draped to the waist and with a cloak over his shoulder, holding, in his right hand, a long scepter topped by an eagle and with his left at his waist; to left, M. Rev. MZDY Lion walking to left, with crescent below and star above. Casabonne 5, C. SNG Levante 185 (Myriandros). SNG Paris 433 (Myriandros). Rare. Lightly toned, a particularly attractive example. Obverse struck from a slightly worn die and with some light porosity, otherwise, extremely fine.

From the Sunrise Collection and from the Prospero Collection, New York Sale XXVII, 4 January 2012, 589, ex Spink NCirc XCVI/5 (June 1988), 3496.

These coins have traditionally been ascribed to the mint of Myriandros, primarily because of Newell's ground-breaking study of 1919. Casabonne's 2004 study has convincingly returned them to Tarsos.
