KYRENAICA, Kyrene. Circa 500-480 BC. Hemidrachm (Silver, 9mm, 2.12 g). Silphium fruit (seed pod?). Rev. Winged female figure standing facing within incuse square. BMC 24 = pl. IV, 18 and cf. BMC pl. IV, 6-8 (drachms with this reverse type). Extremely rare. Uncleaned as found, with deposits of horn silver and with a reverse struck from a very worn die, otherwise, very fine/very good.
