Gordian I, 238. Sestertius (Orichalcum, 29mm, 19.39 g 11), Rome, "1-22 April 238". IMP CAES M ANT GORDIANVS AFR AVG Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian I to right. Rev. PROVIDENTIA AVGG / S - C Providentia standing facing, head to left, leaning on low column to right and holding a wand in her right hand and a cornucopiae with her left; to left, at her feet, globe. BMC 5. Cohen 6. RIC 9. Very rare. With a splendid portrait and a dark, blackish-green patina. Some minor smoothing in the fields and a minor flan crack at the edge, otherwise, extremely fine.
