Anastasius II Artemius, 713-715. Seal or Bulla (Lead, 41mm, 41.52 g 12), an Imperial bulla, used for official documents. The Virgin Hodegetria standing facing, nimbate and draped, holding, with both hands, the infant Christ, draped and wearing a cross-nimbus; to left and right, cross; all within circular border. Rev. d N APTEMIVS A - NASTASIVS MVL Bearded facing bust of Anastasius, wearing crown with a cross on circlet and a chlamys, holding a globus cruciger in his right hand and an akakia in his left. Zacos & Veglery 31. Very rare. Beautifully struck and with a lovely earthen-grey patina. Extremely fine.
