Italy, Parma, Duchy. Ottavio Farnese. 1547-1586. Quarto di scudo (Silver, 27mm, 8.64 g 8), mintmaster Pelegrino Carretta, undated but 1573-1577. (branch)OCTAVE.F.PA.ET.PL.DVX.II Bare head of Octavio to right. Rev. On the right, Christ seated left, holding a crown in his right hand. which he is about to place on the head of the Virgin who is kneeling right before him; above left, dove; in exergue, winged head of a cherub between P C. CNI IX, p. 448, 95. MIR 930/3. RM 3 (but this number contains the issues of four different moneyers). Very rare. Beautifully toned and with an unusually fine portrait. Extremely fine.
