India, Governor General gold presentation medal, 1888, by A. Wyon, conjoined profile busts of the Marquess and Marchioness of Lansdowne, surrounding legend with the title VICEROY OF INDIA, signed A. Wyon F below bust, rev. coat of arms supported by two winged horses, with outer legend, reading PRESENTED BY HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR GENERAL, signed A Wyon. SC., edge uninscribed, 51 mm., wt. 104.50gms. (Puddester 888.2), in original red leatherette box, brilliant uncirculated and extremely rare Lansdowne, formally Governor General in Canada, chose to retain the same design for his presentation medal after his appointment to India. The medal was probably struck in London by Pinches. The lot is in a plastic holder and graded by PCGS as Specimen 64. (£12,000-15,000)
