(Reinecke 57), extremely fine St Isaac's Cathedral was built between 1818 and 1858, by the French-born architect Auguste Montferrand, and was designed to accommodate 14,000 standing worshippers. In 1931 the Antireligious Museum was opened in the building, changing to a museum of history and art and of the Orthodox Church. Since 1990 religious services have been resumed. (£140-160)
