ANCIENT COINS, Greek, Kingdom of Thrace, Lysimachos (323-281 BC), Silver Tetradrachm, mint of Smyrna, struck 287/6-282/1 BC, diademed head of Alexander the Great facing right, with horn of Ammon, rev BAΣIΛEΩΣ / ΛYΣIMAXOY, Athena, helmeted, seated left, holding Nike and resting her left arm on a shield at her side, behind her rests a spear, Φ in outer left field, turreted head facing right in inner left field, 16.96g, 12h (Thompson 237; Müller 408). An elegant portrait, good metal, lightly toned, about extremely fine and very rare, Lysimachos only struck a single issue at Smyrna.
