Abbasid, al-Mustakfi (944-946) AV Dinar, 4.24g, Madinat al-Salam, AH334, naming heir Abu'l Hasan Muhammad below legend, rev. naming Mustakfi as the true Imam: imam al-haqq / al-Mustakfi billah (Bernardi 338Jh; A.262), extremely fine, rare.
This coin has the distinction of being one of the last coins struck by the Abbasids. Soon after this al-Mustakfi was overthrown by the Buwayhids who installed their own caliph. This would account for the description of al-Mustakfi as 'the true imam' found on the reverse of this particular issue.
