Edward III (1327-77), Groat, 4.64g, Post-treaty period, 1369-77, London, m.m. cross pattée with four pellets/no pellets rev., crowned bust facing, row of annulets along bust in imitation of chainmail, fleurs on all cusps, franc' d hib, rev. saltire before civi and lon (Stewartby Type I, p.261; N.1284; S.1639), a field find with scrape to bust and in second and fourth quarters of reverse, deeply toned from soil action and with annealing marks under magnification, however, a particularly well struck piece, the bust pleasing and the annulets well defined, good very fine, certainly one of the better grade pieces for this rare issue.

(£1,500 - £2,000)
