Henry VII, (1485-1509), Half-angel, 2.54g, Type V, m.m. cross-crosslet, St Michael spearing Satan, saltire stops, rev. o crvx ave spes vnica, shield within ship to right, cross above dividing h and rose (Potter & Winstanley Pt.II, p.150; SCBI 23 Ashmolean, No-; Schneider-; Stewartby p.429; N.1702; S.2192 - all references list rose/cross-crosslet combination only), a field find with small kink in flan, some scrapes to reverse, particularly on periphery at 12 o'clock, generally presentable and retaining some good detail, nearly very fine, this piece unique and an important addition to the corpus of numismatic knowledge in the reign of Henry VII.
Hitherto, in the angelet series of Henry VII, mintmark cross-crosslet was only known as a mule with mintmark rose on obverse. This piece is, therefore, the first known true type V angelet with the cross-crosslet mintmark on both obverse and reverse.
