Edward VI (1547-53), Shilling, 4.50g, Second period, January 1549-April 1550, second issue, Durham House, m.m. bow, undated and with transposed legends, crowned bust right, wire-line inner circle, rev. large garnished shield dividing e r, large lettering, ang er legend var., beaded inner circle (Bispham obv. type 4, bust 2/rev. type B; N.1925; S.2472A), striking crack near 12 o'clock and with some marks in obverse field, dark, patchy patina to reverse, this piece, for a Durham House respectable, the reverse well-centred, generally nearly very fine for this, rare with this bust and legends transposed but particularly so with the blundered and recut reverse die.
provenance:
SNC, August 2008, HS3532

It can be seen that the reverse legend appears to be recut from just before 6 o'clock and seems to read ....] ANG ER ET(ligate?) HI[...]B REX. There are further letters cut in the die beneath this legend which are indistinct.
(£600 - £800)
