Elizabeth I (1558-1603), Shilling, 5.54g, Sixth issue, 1582-1600, m.m. 2, crowned bust left, rev square shield on long cross fourchée (B&C 6B; N.2014; S.2577), the bust worn down, weaker areas and with some knocks to reverse shield, mostly in good relief and toned, mintmarks well legible, tough to grade but generally nearly very fine.
A likely explanation for the heavy wear concentrated on the Queen's portrait is that this coin was used as a touch piece in antiquity.
