City of Dora AE 21 mm struck year 34 B.C.E. (Meshorer 13, Rosenberger 13) 7.03 g.
An extremely rare and important city coin depicting the busts of Mark Antony and Cleopatra. Nowadays, Dora (Tel Dor) is an important archaeological site located 16 km south to Haifa. This coin type has been struck with a single obverse die that was prematurely ruined by wear and breaks, it explains why so few coins were struck and why their obverse is always so poor. For 3 other examples, see Heritage-Shoshana 2012 (#20607), CNG 2014 (Auction 97 #513) and NAC 2015 (Auction 84 #872). This coin is quasi-contemporary of the 4 dated coins of Herod the Great.
Est. $7,000-9,000
