Cuba, "souvenir" peso, 1897, wide date, "PAT 97" variety, ex-von Schuckmann. KM-XM1. 22.47 grams. Very lightly cleaned XF, struck in high relief but the highest points now smooth, interesting low-mintage issue (828 pieces) struck by the Republican government in exile in New York while Cuba itself was still under Spanish rule, first issue with PAT.97. on truncation of bust, desirable pedigree. Pedigreed to the von Schuckmann collection (Renaissance, December 2000), with original lot-tag #971.
