Provenance: E.C. Carter Collection; R. Carlyon-Britton Collection; J.M. Ashby Collection, Spink Auction 145, 12-14 July 2000, lot 2293 [from Seaby October 1959]; bt C.D. Cooke November 2000.
The vendor's paperwork mentions a group of four stops before the reverse mintmark. The field seems to have been worked or drilled in this area creating the impression, deliberate or otherwise, of four stops when only one was originally present
