BRITISH COINS, William and Mary (1688-1694), Halfcrown, 1691, edge tertio, no stop after br, full orbs on rev. crowns (ESC 852; S 3436). Small reverse edge flaw at 7 o'clock, otherwise good very fine, lightly toned, rare £600-800

---

This discovery coin has just been published in the new edition of English Silver Coinage. It is struck from dies of style and workmanship which are superior to the normal third issue coins; perhaps the most obvious feature is the pronounced orb on each of the four crowns above the shields. Other differences should be noted: the apex of the shields extend into the interior of the crowns, the sides of the shields are straighter, the date figures are further from the central panel of arms while the monograms are more slender and delicate
