BRAZIL. 600 Reis, 480 Reis C/S 8 Reales, (1663). Alfonso VI (1656-67). NGC VF-20.
Gomes-A6-04.02; cf.KM-65. Listed as RARE in Gomes and the first of the type we have handled. The Type-I countermark of 480 Reis was applied following the decree of February 26, 1643 and then some 20 years later was once again revalued at 600 Reis (Type-III countermark) by the decree of March 22, 1663. Clear countermarks can be seen that nearly touch but do not overlap, with both countermarks grading VERY FINE or better, much like the 8 Reales host coin. A wonderful example and highly desirable, even more so because of the nearly round cob host coin. No question, a coin of significant historical interest as well as numismatic, and possibly the only chance to add such a specimen in the foreseeable future. NGC VF-20.

Estimate: $700.00- $1000.00
