FRANCE. Sans Dén (No Denomination), 1814. PCGS SP-55 Secure Holder.
Maz-769. Provisional government issue struck at Paris during the occupation following Napoleon's defeat in the Battle of Paris in late March of 1814, which forced him into exile. Struck on a 5 Franc planchet, or equivalent thereof, the reverse legends give reference to Francis I, the Emperor of Austria at the time. An unusual and highly historical piece, what few are seen of the issue are seldom this nice. Attractive cobalt blue tone clings to the original proof surfaces all through the legends, with very little actual wear aside from breaks to the luster. PCGS SP-55 Secure Holder.
