FRANCE. 5 Franc, 1824. Charles X (1824-30). NGC MS-64.
Maz-870; VG-2590; KM-unlisted. Uniface obverse ESSAI. Features one of nearly two dozen different portraits that were proposed for Charles X, the one offered here designed by F. Domard and being fairly close to the adopted design produced by T. Michaut. A uniface striking in tin or white metal, it is truly remarkable that the metal has not discolored or corroded given the unstable nature of the metal. A crisp flawless portrait, and housed in an older six-digit NGC holder, it is difficult to imagine a nicer example outside of a museum collection. NGC MS-64.
