41 mm. Approximately 39 pieces in lot. A large series of medals honoring prominent Frenchmen of history, designed by leading medallists of the day. All of the medals feature a portrait of the subject on the obverse with simple biographical information on the reverse. The medals in this series were mostly struck between 1816 and 1826 although dates as late as 1838 are known. The entire series consists of 119 medals, with many pieces being re-struck at later periods. All examples in this lot have plain edges and appear to be original strikes. Most with original chocolate or mahogany patinas, and a few showing some red luster. Retail value over $1,500. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. Average condition EXTREMELY FINE.
