ITALY. Kingdom of Napoleon. 40 Lire, 1814-M. Milan Mint. NGC MS-63.
Fr-5; KM-12; Gig-79; Mont-203. Three at this grade, with two finer (both MS-64) at NGC and PCGS and housed in an older six-digit NGC holder. In all respects a condition rarity with few surviving specimens coming anywhere close to this level of preservation. Struck at a time when Napoleon's fate was already sealed, but before the collapse of his empire. It is worthy of note that the Italian issues struck under his authority depict the emperor without laurels unlike similar coinage concurrently struck in France at the time. The coin offered here has a nearly perfect portrait with a clean cheek and nearly all of the hair detail fully struck-up. Highly reflective fields, especially on the reverse, produce a semi-cameo effect, and overall help separate this coin from other lesser examples by a wide margin. NGC MS-63.
Estimate: $1000.00- $1300.00
