ITALY. Tuscany. Fiorino, 1847. NGC MS-64.
Craig-72a. One of four certified at this grade, with two finer at PCGS and NGC. Struck just prior to the revolutions which swept through much of Europe the following year. Features a prominent Florentine fleur-de-lis on the reverse, a symbolic portion of the Arms of Florence adopted via the French Anjou lineage that ruled Tuscany following the death of Emperor Frederic II in 1250. It would seem that old habits die hard for this French symbology to have persisted for so many centuries in peninsular Italy. In any case, a splendid example of the issue with charcoal toned obverse features laid down over original surfaces. Brighter reverse, with exceptional details, both sides. NGC MS-64.
Estimate: $350.00- $500.00
