MEXICO. Carlos & Johanna, Early Series. 3 Reales, ND (ca. 1536)-R. Assayer R, Francisco del Rincon. FINE.
Cal-type-75#101a; KM-0013.1; Nes-5c. 6.06 gms. VERY RARE type. Three dots for denomination. We are confident of the authenticity of the coin though the degree of seawater damage led NGC and PCGS both to decline authenticating it. Krause lists the existence of some 15 coins that were recovered from Padre Island's wreck, presumably this coin is one of them. A VERY RARE denomination, missing from many type collections of the era. Retrograde "N" in legend JOHAИA for type, and readily identifiable as such. Corrosion from salt water immersion. FINE.

Estimate: $1000.00- $1500.00
