MEXICO. Escudo, 1776-FM. Charles III (1759-88). NGC AU Details--Scratches.
Fr-36; Cal-type-79#675; KM-118.2. A single noteworthy vertical scratch on the portrait draws the details card, but close examination reveals it to be contemporary to the piece with tone (sometimes heavy) consistently covering the surface damaged and undamaged alike. A coin of considerable interest for its date alone, the example offered here is also one of the few to survive in such a high grade regardless of the net-graded assessment. Excellent details all through the portrait, and with a reverse shield exhibiting all of the intricacies intended for the coin. We would expect some Spirit of '76 bidding on this lot, though the date all aside, a worthy coin to collect in its own right. Sharply struck with considerable mint luster and quite attractive. NGC AU Details--Scratches.

From the David O'Harrow Collection.

Estimate: $400.00- $600.00
