MEXICO. 4 Reales, 1821-MoJJ. Ferdinand VII (1808-33). NGC AU-53.
Cal-type-214#777; KM-102. Only one certified at this grade, with one finer (MS-62) at PCGS and NGC. By 1821 and the time this coin was struck, most all of Spanish Colonial America had risen-up and either achieved independence or was hurling quickly towards it. Yet the king's portrait remained on this coin as an almost nostalgic relic of the past. Last year for the type, and last year for Spanish Colonial Mexico, hence a truly historical coin. Original mint bloom evident in the protected areas of the legends and reverse devices. Generally even overcast gray tone adhering to the balance of the coin, with ample remaining detail for the assigned grade. A welcome addition to any comprehensive collection of Spanish Colonial portraiture coinage. NGC AU-53.

From the David O'Harrow Collection.

Ex: Richard Long Sale #88 December 20, 1999, Lot 321.

Estimate: $700.00- $1000.00
