MEXICO. 2 Reales, 1824-MoJM. NGC EF-45.
KM-373.4; HO-O3, R3. "Hookneck". First and only year of issue from the First Republic, a historically significant coin with relevance to collectors and Mexican heritage aficionados alike. Krause states that no known examples exist with visible eagle breast feathers, suggesting all known pieces are somewhat weakly struck. The coin offered here adheres to that same criteria, however close inspection reveals abundant areas of fresh original proof-like surfaces in the protected areas of the legends, especially on the reverse. When combined with green, blue and amber tone, the resulting image the coin presents is most impressive. It is almost inconceivable that a nicer example is out there at this grade level. With catalog values that quadruple from Extremely Fine to Uncirculated, it may well be a good candidate for re-submission for those so inclined to engage in grade arbitrage. NGC EF-45.
