MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1861-OFR. NGC MS-63.
KM-377.11; DP-Oa05. Plain "O" mint mark. Three at this grade, with two finer (both MS-64) at NGC and PCGS. Dunigan & Parker have long considered the date as RARE and underrated. Struck at what was the second mint to be operating simultaneously in Oaxaca at the time, the coin offered here exhibits all of the characteristics consistent with other known examples; weak strike, evidence of die rust, and overall sketchy quality. Yet when taken into the context of other surviving examples, and in spite of these inherent shortcomings, the coin offered here is magnificent. Glowing mint bloom along with generous amounts of detail through most of the devices, will have most specialists in this four-year issue astonished. The reverse eagle in particular, is near fully struck with every last feather fully delineated. Though a point away from the finest graded, we would challenge anyone to locate a nicer looking example. A true premium quality example by any measure. NGC MS-63.

Estimate: $2000.00- $2500.00
