MEXICO. Early Silver Coinage, ND (ca. 16th & 17th Centuries). FAIR-ALMOST VERY FINE.
31 pieces in lot. Positively seductive group of unattributed but immediately recognizable early Mexican coins. Multiple issues from Carlos and Johanna that will provide plenty of entertainment for the lucky collector who gets to attribute all of these. Half-Real, multiple examples of Real coins, 2 Reales, plus a really terrific 4 Real (Cal-type-64#85) in CHOICE FINE, and these are just the Carlos and Johanna coins! Pretty much a tour of the Calico catalog follows from there, beginning with Philip II coins. The first one we pulled was a 4 Real (Cal-type-216#329) that catalogs for $500, another (Cal-type-222#335) cataloging for $250. The lot includes a few more rugged looking 8 real cobs as well, including an undated (1646-67) 8 Reales struck under Philip IV (Cal-type-94b) that is probably ship-wrecked, though most of the other coins appear to be original. Catalog value in excess of $3,500. Inspection advised. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. FAIR-ALMOST VERY FINE.
Estimate: $1500.00- $2000.00
