PHILIPPINES. Japanese Occupation. Homma Medal in Silver With Loop, 1942. ALMOST EXTREMELY FINE.
35.49 mm; 18.61 gms. Basso-150. Type I with plain edge and loop. By Clemente Zamora. Japanese soldier in combat gear facing away at center gazing at the island of Corregidor in distance with commemorative legend above; Reverse: Two palm tress with fronds at top, four stars at center and filling the fields is a poem which Basso credits General Homma with writing. Struck with dies SA(1) from the Czahor survey notable for large characters in the obverse legend and noticeably lower, nearly non-existent, rims on the obverse. No sign of any undertype can be noted. Some light contact marks in the fields but nothing significant, handling a bit more evident with noticeable rub on the highest points. It should be noted that the suspension loop in this piece is more primitive than usually seen. Some green residue noted for accuracy. ALMOST EXTREMELY FINE.
