PHILIPPINES. Japanese Occupation. Homma Medal in Silver, 1942. EXTREMELY FINE.
38.18 mm; 19.78 gms. Basso-150. Type II with reeded edge and no loop. By Clemente Zamora. Japanese soldier in combat gear facing away at center gazing at the island of Corregidor in distance with commemorative legend above; Reverse: Two palm tress with fronds at top, four stars at center and filling the fields is a poem which Basso credits General Homma with writing. Struck with dies SB(4) from the Czahor census. Overstruck on what is presumably a Philippine Peso based on the size and weight of the planchet but with scant details of the undertype showing through to positively identify the original coin. Some noticeable die cracks are present on the obverse and reverse and some of the legend characters on the obverse show some filling of the inner areas. Handsome medium gray toning throughout. Without any noticeable contact marks and wear on only the highest points of relief. EXTREMELY FINE.

From the Ray Czahor collection.

Estimate: $700.00- $1000.00
