PHILIPPINES. Japanese Occupation. Homma Medal in Silver, 1942. CHOICE EXTREMELY FINE.
35.57 mm; 18.09 gms. Basso-150. Type I with plain edge. By Clemente Zamora. Japanese soldier in combat gear facing away at center gazing at the island of Corregidor in distance with commemorative legend above; Reverse: Two palm tress with fronds at top, four stars at center and filling the fields is a poem which Basso credits General Homma with writing. Struck with dies SB(6) from the Czahor survey which are notable for their long lines to represent the rolling waves, more realistically rendered than those on SB(5) but nevertheless a more bold representation than other observed dies. The piece is plain edge but does not have a loop, there is however a small patch of solder at twelve o'clock on the edge where a loop was once attached which has been removed or broken off. Without contact marks and only moderate signs of handling. Minor evidence of PVC damage seen at the periphery. A handsome and nicely toned example. CHOICE EXTREMELY FINE.

From the Ray Czahor collection.

Estimate: $500.00- $700.00
