PHILIPPINES. Japanese Occupation. Homma Medal in Brass, 1942. VERY FINE.
35.85 mm; 22.52 gms. cf.Basso-150. Type I with plain edge and loop. By Clemente Zamora. Japanese soldier in combat gear facing away at center gazing at the island of Corregidor in distance with commemorative legend above; Reverse: Two palm tress with fronds at top, four stars at center and filling the fields is a poem which Basso credits General Homma with writing. Plain edge but without loop although there is a solder spot at twelve o'clock where a loop was at one time attached and has since been removed or broken off. The only example known in brass. Extensive "die rust" on reverse alluding to the idea that this may be a near contemporary restrike made after the war. Obverse shows some contact marks and signs of previous polishing. An intriguing off metal example. Light scratch on obverse. VERY FINE.

From the Ray Czahor collection.

Estimate: $350.00- $500.00
